Athletico Physical Therapy to Host Ninth Annual Shoe Drive

The Shoe Drive will run from October 6-18 and benefit Illinois AMVETS

Oak Brook, Illinois — Athletico Physical Therapy is set to host its Ninth Annual Shoe Drive to collect new and gently used shoes at each facility from Monday, Oct. 6 through Saturday, Oct. 18. All employees, patients and the general public are welcome to donate at their local clinic. Collected shoes will be donated to Illinois AMVETS, a nonprofit that supports veterans and active military personnel through various programs. All proceeds generated from the donated shoes will help fund these programs.

Illinois AMVETS has been a leader of the veteran community since 1944 in helping to preserve the freedoms secured by America’s Armed Forces. Athletico Physical Therapy is honored to employ both active and former military service members in the clinics and in the corporate offices. Army and Illinois National Guard veteran as well as Athletico physical therapist Oscar Jacome, PT, DPT, LMT, represents the ideal connection between AMVETS and Athletico Physical Therapy.

“Athletico emphasizes teamwork and professionalism, something that I learned while I was in the service, making it a smooth transition to the Athletico team,” Jacome said. “I’ve had patients who were in the service or were injured while in the service, so it is easy for me to get along with them because I can relate to their experiences and military background.”

Illinois AMVETS continues its proud tradition of providing the Veteran Service Officer program, which provides support for veterans and active military service members in procuring their earned entitlements. That familiar environment is why collaborating with AMVETS holds importance to Athletico.  The Athletico culture thrives on supporting programs designed to recognize and support employees deployed while working within the company.

“AMVETS of Illinois is pleased to have been approached and selected as the beneficiary organization for Athletico’s Ninth Annual Shoe Drive,” AMVETS Department of Illinois Commander, Chris Studebaker said. “The proceeds from the drive will help continue our longstanding tradition of working for America’s heroes.”

The rehabilitation profession is one built on helping individuals achieve a better quality of life. Athletico is proud to partner with numerous charitable organizations to extend their time and talents to the communities where patients and employees live and work.
